The North Star Knoll , together with the Andenes Knoll and the Explora Knoll, form a group of deep-sea mountains in the eastern Weddell Sea off the Caird coast of the East Antarctic Coatsland . It is located at a depth of 3605 meters.

The name of the rock goes back to the surveyor and glaciologist Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute and has been internationally recognized since 1997. It is named after the German research vessel Polarstern , with whose help 22 research trips to the Antarctic were undertaken between 1982 and 1995.
