Dolmen du Grand Bouillac
The Dolmen du Grand Bouillac is located about one kilometer north of the village of Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard , near Les Sables-d'Olonne in the Vendée department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
history
Until the 19th century there were several menhirs in an area of a few hundred meters around this dolmen, which at that time was still under a large mound of earth ( tumulus ) . In 1905 the badly destroyed megalithic structure was poorly restored.
The dolmen has been protected as a monument historique since 1991 .
description
The medium-sized kinked dolmen ( French dolmen coudé ) is a corridor bent at right angles (cf. Dolmen du Kernourz , gallery grave of Luffang ). Some stones of the entrance passage, including a capstone (lying on the ground) have been preserved. The side entrance leads into a chamber with a side length of about 3 m, the seven supporting stones ( orthostats ) of which have overturned apart from two, on which the large capstone rests on one side. As with many dolmens in the area, the floor consists of a smooth limestone slab .
