Dolmen du Lac d'Aurie
The Dolmen du Lac d'Aurie ( German "Dolmen vom See Aurie" ; also called "Dolmen du Pech-Lapeyre") is the oldest megalithic complex in the Lot department in France that is classified as a historical monument . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
The dolmen is located in Limogne-en-Quercy between Cajarc and Lalbenque in the south of Lot. From the village, the Cagnagol road leads into the forest and to the capstone resting on two small supporting stones. The capstone of around 3.0 × 2.0 m is 0.7 m thick. At 17 tons, it is the heaviest in Lot.
The dolmen was classified as a monument historique in 1889 .
