Dolmen from the Coll de la Llosa

The dolmen of the Coll de la Llosa is a megalithic complex on the Coll de la Llosa mountain pass between the villages of Bouleternère , Casefabre and Saint-Michel-de-Llotes in the eastern foreland of the Canigou massif, in the north of the Pyrénées-Orientales department in France . The dolmen has served as a boundary marker for the three places since ancient times - at least since the early 19th century.

In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

description

The gangdolmen ( French dolmen à couloir ) restored by Jean-Philippe Bocquenet in 1994 dates from the 4th millennium BC. BC, which connects it with the Neolithic culture of the Chasséen , which was also at home in the eastern Pyrenees. It is surrounded by a tumulus ten meters in diameter. Like other dolmens in the region, the archaeological site is located on a high point that dominates the area, here the deep valley of the Boulès .

The 3.5 m long corridor of the dolmen leads right-aligned into an approximately square chamber, which is delimited by six supporting stones. One appeared to have kept its original position; the others had been tilted or moved before the dolmen was restored. The chamber is covered with a projecting plate (2.4 m long, 1.5 m wide and 0.35 m thick), which, according to Jean Abélanet (1925-2019), bears engravings in the form of 34 crosses and 82 bowls . The chamber had been looted in ancient times. The ground was dug deep so that the stability of the panels was endangered.

It was first described by Eugène Devaux in 1934. In 1949 a study by Pierre Ponsich (1912–1999) and Maurice Iché followed, and in 1996 by Jean-Philippe Bocquenet.

Nearby are the Dolmen de les Rieres and the Dolmen de Creu de la Llosa .
