Leonhard Rudolf Mordian von Selchow (born October 11, 1809 in Rettkewitz , † February 9, 1893 in Halle an der Saale ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Origin and family

Leonhard was a member of the noble family von Selchow . His parents were the captain in the infantry regiment "von Kauffberg" (No. 51) , district administrator in the Lauenburg-Bütow district and heir to Rettkewitz, Friedrich von Selchow (1769–1845) and Friederike Ludowika Amalie, née Kummer (1783–1864). He married Emmy Kloer (1821–1900), daughter of the manorial estate owner zu Märzdorf and district deputy Carl Ferdinand Kloer (1786–1857). However, the marriage remained childless.

Career

Selchow began his career in the Prussian army in 1827 as a grenadier in the Emperor Franz Grenadier Regiment No. 2 . In 1828 he was promoted to sergeant and porter ensign , was aggregated as a secondary lieutenant in 1829 and was classified in 1831. From 1831 to 1837 he was assigned to the rifle factory in Potsdam and from 1842 to 1843 to the combined guard reserve battalion in Spandau . In 1846 he was promoted to prime lieutenant . Then in 1848 he took part in the suppression of the March Revolution in Berlin and the Schleswig-Holstein uprising , there in particular the battle near Schleswig . In 1848 he was promoted to captain and company commander . In 1856 he moved with promotion to Major in the 15th Infantry Regiment . Selchow was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV class in 1860 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1861 . He became the commander of the 30th Infantry Regiment in 1862 . In 1863 he was promoted to colonel , in the same year became commander of the Prussian occupation troops in Frankfurt am Main and in 1864 received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. In the German War he was with the Main Army and took part in the battle near Hammelsburg . In 1866 he became the leader of a brigade in the I. Reserve Army Corps and received the swords for the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class, became commander of Kassel , advanced to major general and finally became commander of the 43rd Infantry Brigade. He received the Order of the Red Eagle 2nd Class with Oak Leaves and Swords on the Ring in 1870. In the same year he became commander of the 2nd Landwehr Division, which he remained for the mobile relationship. In the Franco-Prussian War he took part in the enclosure of Metz , the Battle of Noisseville and the siege of Soissons. In 1860 Selchow received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Mecklenburg Cross of Merit II. Class. He was promoted to lieutenant general in 1871 and made officers of the army. In the same year he was used again as the commandant of Kassel and received the star with oak leaves and swords for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class. In 1874 he was awarded pension for grabs placed under award of the Red Eagle, First Class with Oak Leaves and Swords.
