Dolmen of Kercadoret

The dolmen of Kercadoret is one of many megalithic structures in the area around Locmariaquer in the Morbihan department in Brittany . The Neolithic building was protected as a Monument historique in 1929 .

location

The dolmen is about 4.0 kilometers northwest of Locmariaquer on the right of the D781 on private meadow land. Depending on the season, it is more or less densely overgrown. In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

Dating

Dating the building is difficult as there are only very few stones, which moreover have no ornamentation whatsoever; There is also no evidence of reuse of stones. This distinguishes the Kercadoret dolmen from most of the other megalithic structures in the Locmariaquer area. The simple - somewhat rough - stone processing makes a late construction period (around 3500 BC) likely.

architecture

The approximately 2.10 × 2.50 m measuring dolmen consists of six supporting stones with a single cover plate; the burial chamber reaches a maximum height of 1.50 m - the supporting stones on the right side of the entrance may have sunk into the sandy subsoil. In front of the actual burial chamber there are two inwardly drawn orthostats , which formerly possibly - more details have not yet been researched - represented the transition to a corridor ( allée couverte ) that has since disappeared . The dolmen was probably originally covered by a hill made of small stones ( cairn ), which was later removed by human hands.

Others

Four Bronze Age spear and arrow heads from around 1500 BC were found in the burial chamber . Found. The tidal mill and the dolmen of Coët-Courzo are nearby .
