Dolmen of Magné

The dolmen of Magnez consist of the dolmen of Magné and the dolmen of Pierre-Pèse, which only consist of a bearing stone and a tilted ceiling stone. They are located west of Courcôme in the north of the Charente department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ). They are part of a necropolis that used to consist of several megalithic structures and was destroyed in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Magné dolmen is on its side. Its square ceiling plate measures around 2.8 × 2.8 m and is 0.8 m thick.

The dolmen of Pierre-Pese (German: heavy stone - not to be confused with the dolmen of Pierre Pèse ) is closer to the town, to the north and in its tumulus . Its ceiling slab measures around 3.0 × 2.0 m, is 0.80 m thick and rests on eight supports that delimit a chamber 1.5 m long.

A buried stone, a menhir or the capstone of another dolmen (about 2.0 × 2.0 m and weighing five tons) was found in 2009 and set up on the edge of the field west of the Pierre-Pese dolmen using tree trunks and hemp ropes.

The two dolmens were registered as Monument historique in 1930 .
