The series not only shows Götze's everyday sporting life and his fight for the World Cup ticket and his private life.

Reviews

"A very impressive documentary."

- ttt - title theses temperaments (ARD)

"The best I've seen lately."

- Frank Buschmann (TV presenter)

“With Being Mario Götze, Aljoscha Pause not only creates a sensitive portrait of a football player, but also an exciting and highly topical insight into the football system. Predicate valuable. "

- German film and media rating

“The in-depth observation of an exceptional athlete literally goes into Mario Götze's head. One of the most interesting sports films in recent years. "

"Patient with regard to the human factor and knowledgeable about football as a sport and business, Aljoscha Pause always makes the right decisions in over two captivating hours: What does he want to show for his theses and which interlocutors are able to make confident, competent assessments to deliver? In view of what documentation has to achieve, it is as exemplary as 'Profis', the Weisenborn-Wulfes production from 1979 about Breitner and Hoeneß. "

- Cologne city gazette

"The Grimmepreis-winning author Aljoscha Pause has already proven that he is the right man for extraordinary football documentaries. Now he is portraying an astonishingly frank Mario Götze in his long-term documentary for DAZN. Its reflections counteract the daily water levels from the national team's camp. "

- Daily mirror

“Long-term documentaries are always something special in the cinema. Nowadays, who can still show documentary patience for a (much) longer time than conventionally? And: Which filmmaker is able to keep his topic so detailed and exciting? Grimme Prize winner Aljoscha Pause manages this balancing act in his committed and entertaining endeavors to 'identify' Mario Götze, a footballer. The result is a highly interesting portrait of a person whose gifted talent to play football leads to a life outside of 'normal life'. After this impressive film, we are now looking at the footballer and the person Mario Götze with different eyes. "

- Hans-Ulrich Pönack (film critic)

“If the title was a promise, the film definitely delivers. An incredibly good representation of the psyche of our time. "

- Thomas Broich (ex-soccer professional)
