Dolmen of Mas Girarols I

The dolmen of Mas Girarols I belongs to the dolmen of Espolla with ten other megalithic structures . It is located north of Espolla , in the Comarca Alt Empordà in the province of Girona in Catalonia in Spain . At a curve in the road that leads to Banyuls-sur-Mer , a steeply sloping path branches off to the dolmens of Girarols I and II.

Between 3200 and 2700 BC The dolmen was erected in 1920 by Josep Mallart and Joan Salvatella and excavated in 1923 by Pere Bosch i Gimpera (1891–1974), who found only insignificant ceramic fragments. It was recently re-excavated and restored by Josep Tarrús i Galter, Júlia Chinchilla y Sánchez and others, with the capstone being re-applied.

The slabs of the dolmen built on a steep slope are made of slate . It has a trapezoidal chamber with exposed drywall and a corridor.

The dolmen of Mas Girarols II and the dolmen of Puig Balaguer are nearby .
