The Dolmen of Mazariegos (also Dolmen de Cubillejo or Dolmen de Mecerreyes ) is an anta-like megalithic complex near the hamlet of Cubillejo in the municipality of Mambrillas de Lara in the province of Burgos in Castile and León in Spain . The approximately 5000 year old dolmen was excavated in 1970.

description

The dolmen is a gallery grave with access to the east. The characteristic feature is a group of heavily eroded rock carvings (animals and adorants) on one of the orthostats of the Ganges.

The actual burial chamber has a diameter of about 6 m and consists of 10 megaliths made of limestone and conglomerate . The approximately 10.50 m long corridor is formed by two long rows of 6 supporting stones each. It has a decreasing width and height, because the entrance to the chamber is 0.75 m only half as wide as at the opposite end. The capstones of the chamber and passage are lost.

The inner walls of the chamber are partially decorated with motifs. Usually the petroglyphs show patterns with zigzag lines, spirals and circles; here the Neolithic period of artistic creation is mainly represented by engravings.

During the excavations in the 1970s, a bracelet was found next to a fragmented human bone, several pieces of flint stone , two greenish pearls from Callaïs and two ceramic fragments, one of which belongs to the bell-beaker horizon .
