The Dolmen of Ponsat (also Pierre Levée called) is located northwest of Saint-Georges-la-Pouge and is the largest dolmen in the department of Creuse in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The Ponsat dolmen is an angevin- type dolmen (also called the Loire- type dolmen ). It consists of nine supporting stones, which are covered by a single 4.8 × 3.0 m table. The remains of the tumulus are about 12.0 m in diameter.

The dolmen was classified as a Monument historique in 1929 .

Remarks

  1. The Dolmen angevin is an allée couverte of the Loire type, mostly with a (retracted) trilith portal as an entrance.
