Dolmen of Sankt Michaelisdonn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The dismantled dolmen of Sankt Michaelisdonn without Sprockhoff no. were located on the gentle eastern slope of a hill in Sankt Michaelisdonn in the Dithmarschen district in Schleswig-Holstein . The two rectangular spars were examined by G. Schäfer in 1975 because of the expansion of the airfield. They originated between 3500 and 2800 BC. BC as megalithic systems of the funnel beaker culture (TBK).

The north-south-oriented megalithic bed, which had largely been removed, was originally around 38.0 m long and 12.0 m wide. Some signs of the edging have been recorded. The mound on the old surface consisted of fine sandy, slightly humic material. Two remains 1.2 to 1.5 m high and about 8.0 m apart were preserved.

The north chamber had internal dimensions of 3.0 × 1.6 m. The footprints from the stones on the long sides, one large stone in the west and two smaller ones in the east, were present. Remnants of the intermediate masonry made of quartzite plates and their clay seal were preserved.

The board of the recessed, longitudinal chamber was 0.6 to 0.8 m below the base of the hill and was covered with a 5 to 10 cm thick, almost completely preserved layer of fired flint . Outside the chamber lay the remains of the casing of fist- or head-sized pebbles and a layer of sand and loam interspersed with sharp-edged flint gravel. Finds: a flint blade and two decorated shards.

The south chamber had the internal dimensions 3.0 × 1.2 m. The footprints of three bearing stones on each long side and a wide stone in the west and a narrow stone in the east were present. The board of the recessed, transverse chamber was 0.6 to 0.8 m below the base of the hill and was covered with a 5 to 10 cm thick layer of burned flint. Three cross-edged flint arrowheads lay in the embankment . In the area in front of the entrance, on the old surface, lay a large number of Middle Neolithic sherds.
