Dolmen of Tièrgues
The Dolmen of Tièrgues is located northwest of Tièrgues and northeast of Saint-Affrique in the Aveyron department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
The Tièrgues dolmen is about 4.0 meters long and 2.0 meters high and wide. It has two long side plates and a broken end stone remnant. The flat capstone covers the north-east-south-west oriented chamber. There are remains of a hill and some large boulders surround it. It is one of the 20 often not well preserved dolmens that were examined by Émile Cartailhac (1845–1921) in the 20th century . The finds made in the process were brought to the museums of Rodez and Toulouse .
The dolmens in the Aveyron often occur in groups and 92% of all dolmens are made of limestone slabs .
