Vaon Dolmen - from the southeast

The Vaon dolmen is located in a field south of Vaon and west of Les Trois-Moutiers , near Loudun in the far north of the Vienne department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

It is a west-east oriented dolmen of the angevin type. It is about 8.0 meters long, 2.5 meters wide and 1.5 meters high. The chamber is about 6.0 meters long and 2.0 meters wide inside. It is bordered by four (two on each side) orthostats , one of which has collapsed slightly, and the end stone. The two capstones are on top. The dolmen had an approximately 2.5 m long and 1.5 m wide trilith portal on the east side , of which only the two supporting stones have been preserved.

The dolmen is classified as a monument historique .

Nearby are the partially very damaged Dolmen de la Rente de Fontevrault, La Pierre Crapaud, Dolmen de la Porte Rouge and the Dolmen du Tertre des Fées.
