Dolon
Dolon ( Greek Δόλων ) is a figure in Greek mythology , son of the herald Eumedes . He was a spy on Troy's side in Homer's Iliad . In the last battle, in which Troy was already doomed, he crept into the Greek camp in disguise at night, but was exposed, interrogated and killed by Odysseus and Diomedes . His betrayal brought death to the Thracian Rhesus .
The 10th song of the Iliad, in which these events are described, is therefore also called Dolonie .
According to Hygin , Dolon is also the name of a son of Priam.
Some authors (including L. Gernet , R. Girard ) have seen the mythical figure of a human sacrifice ( pharmakòs ) in Dolon . According to Gernet, the description of Dolon as "ugly" (as is the case with Euripides ' Trojans) and "quick-footed" as well as the accusation that he wanted to rob the corpses is indicative of this.
