history

At the location in Stadtilm , Thuringia, the production of white lead began in 1889 . From 1943 electrical insulation material was manufactured here ; 1951 followed the reorientation to the production of gelatine .

Cleaning agents have been manufactured since 1968. In 1973 the name was changed to VEB Stadtilm. 1980-1984, the company was part of the Kombinat VEB household chemistry Genthin , then the VEB Chemie Kombinat Bitterfeld . Before the fall of the Wall , the plant employed up to 600 people. In the GDR , the products were widely used across the country, in particular rust removers, scale removers or blood removers and cleaners for toilets, ovens, carpets and glass. Today they belong to the various GDR collections of museums, such as the GDR Museum Berlin , the City History Museum Leipzig , the German Historical Museum or in Bereklauw near Amsterdam .

In 1990 the company was converted to domal GmbH. In 1993 it became a subsidiary of Kruse Chemie KG. The merger with the Wittol Chemie GmbH 2002, created company domal Wittol washing and cleaning agents GmbH . In 2012 the company became independent from Kruse Chemie KG. After the reunification, the brand did not succeed in gaining a foothold as a classic GDR brand on the German market as a whole, and it also lost noticeably in popularity in the former GDR. Nevertheless, the products are still sold nationwide by many retailers and wholesalers.
