Domarring from Skärholmen
The Domarring of Skärholmen is the remainder of a burial ground from the Bronze and Iron Ages in the south of Stockholm in Sweden . The stone circle was excavated from 1966 to 1967. It has a diameter of about 12 m and, like most of them (including Domarring von Himmelstorp ), consists of nine stones and a central stone. The term "Domarring" can be traced back to earlier times. The circles were associated with the jurisprudence and thought that a certain odd number of judges in the circles gave judgments.
The Domarring was part of a (meanwhile dissolved) burial field with the dimensions of 50 × 100 meters and about 80 graves. Half of them could be dated to the Iron Age 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. The other came mostly from the vendelzeitlichen 6th to 8th century. The remains of at least two cremations were found in the stone circle. The grave goods consisted of shattered pottery, burned bones, charcoal, bronze buckles (one with a Vendel animal ornament and a human mask), and numerous other bronze objects.
Remnants of a supposed settlement (without house floor plans), which consisted of 30 herds, 28 post holes and 9 burials, were also found. The finds there consisted mainly of charcoal, ceramics, slag and clay as well as tools made of iron and flint .
