Domenico Alaleona

Domenico Alaleona (born November 16, 1881 in Montegiorgio , † December 28, 1928 there ) was an Italian composer and musicologist.

life and work

Alaleona had studied at the Liceo di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Cesare De Sanctis and Remigio Renzi . He received his doctorate in 1907 with a work on music history at the University of Rome.

After completing his studies, he initially worked as a conductor. In 1907 he became a teacher at the Conservatory in Rome, directed by Pietro Mascagni . From 1912 he worked as a teacher at the aforementioned Liceo di Santa Cecilia .

His compositions include the opera Mirra (1920), several choral works (including the Requiem pro defuncto rege ) and several song cycles (Melodia Pascoliane, Canti di Maggio). His most important work is the Studi su la Storia dell'oratorio musicale in Italia (Turin, 1908). Alaleona published numerous other music history and aesthetic studies.
