Domenico Barbaja
Domenico Barbaja (* 1778 in Milan ; † 16th October 1841 in Posillipo (Naples) ) was an Italian impresario and opera intendant .
Barbaja worked as a waiter in his youth, later also worked as a circus director and became extremely influential in Italy and Austria through his work as a theater impresario around 1820. He also ran opera houses in Naples ( Teatro San Carlo ), Milan ( La Scala ) and Vienna ( Kärntnertortheater ).
Some of the most important contemporary composers wrote works for him, including Gioachino Rossini , Carl Maria von Weber , Gaetano Donizetti and Vincenzo Bellini .
