FIFA official

As a football official , he was elected Chairman of the FIFA Audit & Compliance Committee in May 2013 , which is supposed to ensure that the association conducts business properly . On June 2, 2015, he took over the management of a reform program in the world football association. On September 10, he published a much-acclaimed reform report on FIFA. On February 26, 2016, the FIFA Congress passed groundbreaking reforms that lay the foundations for significant improvements in governance, including a clear separation between management and strategic and political decisions, stricter controls on elected officials and commitments regarding women in football and human rights. The reforms that have been adopted largely bear the signature of Domenico Scala and follow the proposals in his published reform report. Scala also calls on the member associations and confederations to anchor the principles of good governance in their statutes.

On the basis of the proposal by FIFA President Gianni Infantino , which was adopted by the FIFA General Assembly , that the Council can appoint and dismiss all members of the Audit and Compliance Committee, the Ethics Committee, the Disciplinary Committee and the new Governance Committee by next year , Scala resigned from his position as chief overseer on the same day after violent protests.

He commented on his resignation as follows:

"I am dismayed by this decision, as it undermines a central pillar of FIFA's good governance and undermines a major achievement of the reforms."
