Domenico di Michelino
Domenico di Michelino (* 1417 in Florence , † 1491 ibid) was an Italian painter of the Florentine school and a student of the famous Fra Angelico .
life and work
Domenico's nickname refers to his first teacher, an ivory carver named Michelino. Domenico was elected to the Saint Luke Guild ( Compagnia di San Luca ) in 1442 and joined the Arte dei Medici e degli Speziali guild in 1444 .
Michelino mainly painted scenes from the Bible. His most famous work can be found in the Florentine Cathedral, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore , including Dante and the three kingdoms with Dante Alighieri . The work shows a historical view of the city of Florence around 1465 and scenes from Dante's Divina Commedia (Divine Comedy): Hell , the Mount of Purgatory and the earthly Paradise with Adam and Eve.
