Domine is an Italian power metal band from Florence .

history

The group was founded in 1983 by the brothers Enrico and Riccardo Paoli. With changing members they recorded a total of four demos from 1986 to 1994 .

In 1997, her debut album Champion Eternal was released on the Italian label Dragonheart, whose releases in Germany were temporarily also distributed by SPV . In the Italian online medium TrueMetal.it, Domine was attested that they were "one of the best bands in the power / epic sector" in Europe and that they had managed to differentiate themselves from other bands in the genre.

This style was described on the second album Dragonlord (1999) as "comparable in basic features", while being "more catchy and raw" than the "Italo Power Metal colleagues like Rhapsody or Labyrinth ". The third album Stormbringer Ruler was in the review of Rock Hard u. a. Praised for a broad musical foundation ( Helloween , Hammerfall , Manowar and Iron Maiden ) as well as the "rousing vocal style of Fronter Morby"

With Emperor of the Black Runes , the fourth album was released in 2003 with a gap of two years from its direct predecessors. The English medium MetalReviews.om described the album as " Stormbringer Ruler part 2, just not nearly as good". The sound has been described as "epic Rhapsody style but stronger with a raw true metal sound and influences from Blind Guardian and Iron Maiden". The qualitative assessment was also confirmed by the German online magazine Powermetal.de: "A lot of filler material crept in" and the band was unable to "maintain the very high level of its predecessor". Stylistically, the reviewer described the album as "epic and very melodic Power Metal [...] somewhere at the intersection of Rhapody , Angra and Gamma Ray ".

After a four-year break, the band released their fifth album Ancient Spirit Rising in 2007 , which was recorded differently. The reviewer of the online magazine Vampster.com heard "again a virtuoso masterpiece in the intersection of epic-bombastic power metal and melodic speeds [...] versatile, highly melodic, technically perfect and heavy enough to cause a stir in all fractions . ”In the Austrian counterpart Stormbringer.at, on the other hand, Ancient Spirit Rising was described as“ kitschy over long distances, at times flat as a junk and [...] just unimportant ”. Metal.de also comes to a comparable verdict: “Because once stripped of the bombast, there isn't much left, because the baroque frippery is there to make us believe that there are treasures to be discovered here where in truth there are none . "

Others

In terms of content, the albums are mostly inspired by the saga of the “Eternal Hero” by Michael Moorcock , especially the Elric von Melniboné saga, Conan the Barbarian and Robert E. Howard .

Singer Adolfo "Morby" Morviducci also worked on a temporary basis at Labyrinth.
