Dominicus Dreuer (the elder), also Druer, Drewes (*? In Goslar ; † before 1568 in Lüneburg  ?) Was a German court servant to Duke Heinrich the Younger of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and a Braunschweig regional historian .

Live and act

So far nothing is known about Dominicus Dreuer's family origins and youth. It is said that he was a court servant in the service of the Brunswick Duke Heinrich the Younger, who resided in Wolfenbüttel . Dreuer may later go to Lüneburg and work there as a bookseller until his death.

Dreuer's meaning is based on his writing "Genealogia - birth line and blood line of the [...] emperors, kings, electors, dukes, princes and all lords of Saxony, since Wedekint [...]", on which he worked for 12 years. According to a report by the Helmstedt university professor and historian Heinrich Meibom, it was a commissioned work for Duke Heinrich the Younger. In 1561 the Duke thanked Dreuer for the writing he had sent. Dreuer describes the genealogy and history of the princely and noble families in the Upper Saxon and Lower Saxon imperial circles from Widukind to the Guelphs and Wettins, citing at least 25 sources.

Dreuer's work was appreciated by the preacher and Brunswick regional historian Johann Michael Heineccius (1674–1722). From today's point of view, it is established that Dreuer's writing is "of considerable regional historical interest". Possibly the commissioned work is a late replica of Heinrich the Younger to the writing "Chronica and Coming of the Electors and Princes of the [...] House of Saxony against Duke Heinrich of Braunschweig" by the Electoral Saxon humanist and historiographer Georg Spalatin from 1541, in which historical claims of the Duke on Upper Saxony against the Wettins were refuted.
