Dominikus Irschara (* May 8, 1803 in Abbey ; † May 8, 1879 in Neustift ) was provost and Lateran abbot of the Augustinian Canons of Neustift from 1851 to 1879.

Life

Dominikus Irschara, born on May 8, 1803 in Abbey in Pustertal, was dressed as a novice on November 4, 1826, made his profession on November 4, 1827 and was ordained a priest on August 24, 1828. Afterwards he was a cooperator in Kiens in 1830, curate in Oberwielenbach in 1833, high school professor in Brixen 1836–1843, pastor in Pfalzen 1844, monastery dean 1847–1850, pastor in Assling in 1850. On October 8, 1851, he was elected provost of the monastery.

Under his aegis, the basic relief that had already begun at the time of his predecessor was ended, which plunged the pen into a financial crisis. In addition, in 1863 the monastery took over the upper secondary school in Brixen with eight classes (since 1849 and 1850) and filled it with professors from the ranks of the canons, for which it received a contribution of 800  florins from the Dominstitut Kassianeum and the same contribution from the prince-bishop until 1873 received.

Provost Irschara died on his 77th birthday in 1879.
