Dominique Barthélemy (theologian)

Dominique Barthélemy OP (born May 16, 1921 in Le Pallet ; † February 10, 2002 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) was a French Dominican and biblical scholar .

Life

Dominique Barthélemy entered the Dominican Order in 1940 and was ordained a priest in 1947 . He was a member of the École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem and studied the Dead Sea Scrolls . Together with Joseph Milik , he edited the fragments found in Cave 1.

He then became professor for the Old Testament at the University of Freiburg im Üechtland and its vice- rector . From 1953 he was particularly interested in the roles of the Little Prophets . In 1963 he published Les Devanciers d'Aquila , in which he made groundbreaking hypotheses on the translation and transmission of the Septuagint . He also wrote Dieu et son image , an introduction to reading biblical texts, which has also been translated into German.

Barthélemy devoted himself a. a. the Kaige group.
