Dominique Guillaume Lebel

Dominique Guillaume Lebel , also Le Bel , (* 1696 ; † 1768 ) was the first valet of Louis XV .

In addition to his actual activity as a valet, Lebel chose the mistresses for the king from among young girls and women . The young women who were shortlisted were invited to a supper at Versailles , where the monarch could secretly examine them through a hole in the wall. The lady chosen by the king was carefully instructed and examined by Lebel before she was led into the king's chambers.
