Domis
Domis ( ancient Greek Δόμις ) was a Greek sculptor who worked at the end of the 6th century BC. Was active in Delphi .
He is known for his signature on a statue base, the statue of which, according to the inscription on the base, was donated by a Theugenes from the Corinthian colony of Poteidaia as a consecration gift to Delphi. The base is only preserved in two fragments; On the partially preserved upper side, however, there are no inlet holes that could indicate the type of statue. In his description of Delphis, Pausanias mentions a treasury donated by Poteidaia, with which the statue may have been connected. The origin of the Domis cannot be determined; since his artist's signature is written in a different alphabet than the Corinthian inscription above, an origin from Corinth can be excluded.
Jean Marcadé wanted to identify Domis with the sculptor Somis , who was active in Olympia , but this is considered dubious.
