Don Lonie

Don Lonie (actually Donald H. Lonie , born November 8, 1919 , † November 14, 2001 in Knoxville (Tennessee) ) was an American evangelical lecturer .

Life

Lonie had graduated from the evangelical Wheaton College in 1947 and then developed a special form of youth conversion as a Presbyterian preacher : He gave his sermons , in which he wanted to introduce young people to conservative Christian values ​​and moral concepts, as a comedian in the form of humorous lectures.

Before the religious influence in state schools in the various states of the USA was prevented by changes in the legal basis, Lonie was a frequently invited speaker at high schools . Over the course of 47 years, he performed several thousand times, speaking to an estimated total of 1 million young people in the United States, but also in the UK . His frequent public appearances made Lonie a well-known figure in public life.

In 1962 Lonie's humorous missionary lectures appeared as an LP - spoken record under the title Don Lonie talks with Teenagers on Word Records. Another LP followed in 1964 with Word, Don Lonie talks again . Both records sold in large numbers.

Lonie received an honorary doctorate from Bob Jones University for his achievements in the moral and religious education of the youth of America .

Married was Lonie since 1947 with Betty Jane Lonie born Mistele (* 1926; † 2009), with whom he had four children.
