Donald Frederick Blaxell

Donald Frederick Blaxell (born February 1, 1934 in Sydney , New South Wales ) is an Australian botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Blaxell ".

From 1957 Blaxell worked at the University of New South Wales . In 1968 he joined the "National Herbarium of New South Wales", a division of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, where he mainly worked with Lawrie Johnson . He is a specialist in eucalyptus and orchids and has collected many type materials from eastern Australia.

Together with Johnson, he created the first descriptions of Eucalyptus rupicola and Eucalyptus sphaerocarpa in 1972, and in 1973 that of Eucalyptus paliformis and Eucalyptus sclerophylla .

In 1974 and 1975 Blaxell was sent to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew (London) as the "Australian Botanical Liaison Officer" .
