Donalda is a village in the Canadian province of Alberta . It was founded in 1911 and is named after Donald A. Mann (or according to other sources after his niece), a co-founder of the Canadian National Railway .

In the founding years, the place in central Alberta (Aspenland region) struggled with its somewhat unfortunate location, the main road built on a swamp had to be repeatedly filled with earth. Nevertheless, Donalda developed into a regional trading center, but soon lost its influence again due to the progressive consolidation of rural cities and the relocation of the railway line.

Donalda calls itself Canada's lamp capital , as the local museum exhibits a collection of over 850 lamps from three centuries, mainly kerosene lamps. As of July 2000, it has also been home to officially the world's largest oil lamp , a lighthouse-like building 12.8 meters (42 feet) high and 5.2 meters (17 feet) wide at the base.
