The Donna Jean Godchaux Band is an American band formed by Donna Godchaux in 2006 .
history
After Donna Godchaux reactivated the Heart of Gold Band in 2004 and thus released an album, the members turned back to other projects. Donna Godchaux collaborated with the Zen Tricksters , a Grateful Dead cover band that had existed since 1979.
Together with former Dead musicians like Mickey Hart and Tom Constanten , Godchaux and the Zen Tricksters released the album For Rex: The Black Tie Dye Ball in 2006 . This loose union became the band "Kettle Joe's Psychedelic Swamp Revue", which consisted of three other musicians in addition to Donna Godchaux and Zen Tricksters musicians (Jeff Mattson, Klyph Black and Dave Diamond). In this formation they gave live performances until 2007, but did not release an album.
In 2007 the band renamed itself "Donna Jean and the Tricksters" before the 2008 album of the same name was recorded.
At the end of 2009 the band renamed itself again, this time in "Donna Jean Godchaux Band" (occasionally with the addition "with Jeff Mattson"), in whose line-up Godchaux's second husband David MacKay also played.
