history

Donnerhof was first mentioned in writing in 1557. In 1667 it was owned by Baron Wilhelm von Trankwitz, from 1690 it belonged to the Eberhard von der Brüggen family (Bruecken, Brüggen, Bruege) called Fock, and from 1785 to 1797 to the Mannteuffel family called Szoege. In 1797 Ernst von Pfeilitzer called Franck (1762–1847) bought the estate. The manor house and the farm building were built in 1853 by Julius Friedrich Ernst von Pfeilitzer (1800–1877), who bequeathed Donnerhof to his son Dietrich Alexander Rudolph von Pfeilitzer, called Franck (1843–1904), in 1876. In 1881 the Donnerhof estate consisted of 645 hectares (590 Dessjatinen , the old Russian surface area) of good arable land, 48 pastures , 804 hectares (736 Dess.) Of forest , a mill , two taverns and a brickyard .

In 1904 the property went to Louise Catharina Elizabeth von Pfeilitzer called Franck (1832-1916), the eldest sister of Dietrich Alexander Rudolph von Pfeilitzer called Franck. After her death, her son Otto Keyserlingk (1862–1921) inherited the Donnerhof. In 1921 the property was divided: Gross-Donnerhof inherited Martha Wilhelmine Anna Keyserlingk nee. von der Brüggen (1864–1945), Klein-Donnerhof went to Klaus Keyserlingk (1900–1939). In 1940 Martha Keyserlingk's entire property (250 ha) was nationalized. Their descendants fled to Germany .

Five kilometers from Donnerhof, but on the Latvian side, is the Blankenfeld estate (Blankenfeldes muiža), which once belonged to the same owner family (Mannteuffel, known as Szoege). From 1804 to 1805 the future King of France Louis XVIII. Found refuge.
