Donovan Ricketts (born June 7, 1977 in Montego Bay , Saint James Parish ) is a Jamaican football player for the position of goalkeeper .

Career

youth

Born and raised in Montego Bay, Ricketts began his active football career with youth football club Wadadah FC.After his time at the University of the West Indies , he played for Village United for two years before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2004.

Bradford City

Since he got no match practice in Bolton, he was loaned to Bradford City. He made his debut with Bradford in April 2005. After a year, he signed a contract with Bradford. Over time, Ricketts became a regular and played over 100 games for Bradford City in League Two .

Back to Jamaica

In 2008 Ricketts returned to his former youth club and played in goal for Village United for the last five game days.

Major League Soccer

In December 2008, Ricketts signed with the LA Galaxy . He had a successful season under Bruce Arena coach and was named the best goalkeeper of the 2009-10 season.

Due to an injury, Ricketts could only play 15 games in the MLS in the 2010/11 season. Ricketts lost his place on the starting grid due to his injury. On November 28, 2011, Ricketts moved to Montreal Impact. The transfer fee is unknown. There he was a regular goalkeeper and played 24 games for the Canadians before moving to the Portland Timbers in August 2012 in exchange for Troy Perkins . Ricketts was selected by Orlando City in the MLS Expansion Draft on December 10, 2014.

National team career

Ricketts participated in the 1998 World Cup, but was not used in any game. Since then he has played 100 games for the national team and played in goal for Jamaica in three World Cup qualifications (2002, 2006 and 2010).
