Donya Farahani is a German journalist , radio and television presenter .

Life

Farahani was born in Braunschweig and grew up in Bochum, Aachen and Düsseldorf. After high school she studied at the University of Cologne Economics computer science and graduated in 2010 with a diploma. She is a certified software tester ( ISTQB ). During her studies, Farahani presented at the Cologne University Radio Kölncampus.

Career

Since 2011 Donya Farahani has been working in various editorial offices and functions for WDR and Deutschlandfunk . From 2014 to 2015 she completed the program traineeship at WDR.

As an author and on reporter, Donya Farahani has been working for the report series "Donya Unterwegs im Westen" (formerly Here and Today with Donya) since 2016. In the report series, Farahani immerses himself in different worlds for a week. For her first report, she shared a room with a demented woman in a so-called Alzheimer's flat for a week. For this she received the Diakonie 2018 Diakonia Journalist Prize . Your report from a brothel on the Lower Rhine is one of the most successful films in the WDR's documentary channel on YouTube.

Since 2019 Farahani has hosted various entertainment formats on WDR television, including the report series " For Breakfast at ... ", in which she accompanies celebrities for a day and gains personal insights into their lives. In addition, she moderates the WDR talk and game show " House Sitter Wanted ", which is looking for a house sitter for her apartment. Prominent applicants apply for it and compete in games against each other.

Radio

Farahani has been working as a reporter and author for WDR Cosmo (formerly Funkhaus Europa) since 2011 , initially focusing on network and digital topics. From 2013 to 2014 she was an editor at 1Live , the young wave of WDR. There she also moderated the news.

From 2016 to 2019 Farahani moderated at Deutschlandfunk Nova . Since 2020 she has been moderating the 1Live morning show "1Live with Donya Farahani and the boy" together with Andreas Bursche .
