Dora Siliya

Dora Siliya-Folotiya (born October 8, 1970 , Kitwe ) is a politician in Zambia .

Early years

Dora Siliya is the daughter of company secretary Fanuel Chikatizyo Siliya Mwanza and Hannah Banda Siliya, both from Petauke . She is the first of six children, three boys and three girls. She was born in Kitwe and went to school in Mufulira . After graduating from secondary school in 1988, she began studying medicine at the University of Zambia . After two years she dropped out and worked for Zambian TV and Radio (ZNBC), then returned to the university and started studying mass communication, but continued to work for ZNBC. In 1996 she got the chance to work at the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation. In 1997 she completed her studies with a BA.

At 28, she became a television controller , working directly with General Manager Duncan Mbazima. She then left ZNBC and took a two-year position at Private Sector Development , a European Union project . In 2001 she was asked by the Movement for Multiparty Democracy whether she would not run for the National Assembly, which she did in Petauke. She was unable to win the mandate, but was then sent to the Zambian embassy in Cairo , where she worked as deputy ambassador and was mainly concerned with trade relations. In 2006 she ran again as a parliamentary candidate for the MMD in Petauke.

Dora Siliya was elected to the National Assembly in the 2006 election in Zambia in the Petauke-Zentral constituency. In October 2006 she was appointed Deputy Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry.

Private life

Dora Siliya was married to the music producer (Mondo Music) Chisha Folotiya and lives separately from him.
