Michael Struwe
Michael Struwe (born October 6, 1955 in Wuppertal ) is a German mathematician .
Life
Struwe studied mathematics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . After receiving his doctorate in 1980, he initially worked as a research assistant at the Collaborative Research Center 72, and later as a university assistant at the Mathematical Institute at the University of Bonn. Longer research stays took him to Paris and the ETH Zurich, among others.
In 1984 he completed his habilitation in Bonn. From April 1986 he was appointed first as assistant professor, then from October 1990 as associate professor for mathematics at the ETH Zurich ; since 1993 he has been a full professor of mathematics. His research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations and the calculus of variations as well as their applications in mathematical physics and differential geometry .
He is co-editor of the journals Calculus of Variations , Commentarii Mathematici Helvetici , International Mathematical Research Notices and Mathematische Zeitschrift .
He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
