The Dordtsche Kil , also known as Dortse Kil , is a body of water in South Holland in the Netherlands . It creates a connection between the Hollands Diep and the Oude Maas , south of Rotterdam , and separates the Dordrecht Island from the Hoeksche Waard . The two islands are connected by the Kiltunnel , and the high-speed line south crosses under the Kil. At the mouth of the Dordtsche Kil lies Strijensas, at the confluence with the Oude Maas lies the extensive port and industrial area De Kil .

The Dordtsche Kil is a heavily trafficked tidal water between the Rhine and the Scheldt , and for seagoing vessels from Rotterdam to Moerdijk and vice versa. The direction and speed of flow change regularly depending on the tide, wind direction and strength, water levels and flow rates from the Rhine and Maas.
