Doreen Elizabeth Massey, Baroness Massey of Darwen (born September 5, 1938 in England ) is a British politician, humanist, member of the Labor Party and since 1999 member of the House of Lords . Her specialties are health education and social affairs.

Life

Doreen Massey studied at the University of Birmingham and graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in French and literature . A Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) acquired in 1962 allowed her to initially work as a teacher. In 1962 she went to Gabon for two years , worked from 1967 to 1969 at the Springside School in Philadelphia , USA, from 1973 to 1977 in the Pre-School Play Group Association and from 1977 to 1983 at the Walsingham School in the London Borough of Bromley . In 1983 she joined the Inner London Education Authority as a consultant for three years . In 1985 she took a managerial position at the Health Education Authority , where she headed the Young People's Program and stayed there until 1987.

From 1987 to 1989 she served as director of education for the UK Family Planning Association , a charitable organization that provides education and assistance on issues relating to sexuality and healthy sexual behavior , and served as director for the entire association from 1989 to 1994. During this time she published two textbooks on sexuality. A third book as a reference work followed in 1997. On July 26, 1999, she was raised as Baroness Massey of Darwen , of Darwen in the County of Lancashire, to life peeress and has since held a seat in the House of Lords.

Currently Doreen Massey has since 2002 chaired the The National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse (Organization for treatment of drug abuse ), which was founded in 2001 by the British government, a member of the Advisory Council for Alcohol and Drug Education (Advisory Council for alcohol - and Drug Education ), is President of the Brook Advisory Center , a charity that cares for the sexual health of young people, is Vice President of the Royal Society for Public Health , sits on the board of directors of UNICEF in the UK. and was principal of the Sir James Barrie School in Wandsworth until 2011

Massey is patron of Tacade , a charitable organization that cares about the health and welfare of children, the Trust for the Study of Adolescence , an organization that deals with issues of puberty busy and since 2011 for the Child Trafficking Unit (Department against child trafficking ) at the University of Bedfordshire .
