The church

The Protestant village church of Catharinau is located in the Catharinau district of the Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel community in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

history

After the previous church, which was too close and deep on the right bank of the Saale , was demolished due to the risk of flooding and dilapidation in 1491, the new village church was built in 1758 on the elevated western edge of the village. The current appearance is based on a redesign in 1841.

The hall church, designed in the simple baroque style, has a rectangular floor plan. The slate mansard hipped roof with a large octagonal roof turret with a tail hood and lantern is striking . The churchyard is enclosed with a wall.

The small baroque organ by Francke from 1725 has seven registers and is located on the first gallery above the stately pulpit altar , which is flanked on both sides by a sacristy cabinet.
