Catharinau has been a district of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia since 1994 .

geography

Catharinau is located in the Saale valley about eight kilometers (as the crow flies) northeast of the district town of Saalfeld and three kilometers east of Rudolstadt (district of Cumbach). Catharinau has two historical centers, which are referred to as Oberdorf and Unterdorf . The settlement between the village, which is still under construction, acts as a "bracket".

It was first mentioned in a document as Clinowa et aliud Clinowa in 1074. In 1770 the Protestant theologian and educator Christian David Breithaupt was born in Catharinau.

From 1994 to 2002 Catharinau was part of the unified municipality of Kirchhasel, since July 1, 2002 it has been part of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel after the merger of eleven municipalities.

Regular events

Catharinau has two wells, which were created and made functional after the fall of the Wall by the Catharinau Fire Brigade Association. On the occasion of the restoration of the fountain, the fountain festival is celebrated annually. It takes place at the turn of the month from April to May and is organized by the Cathariau fire brigade association on the village square in front of the church.
