Rödelwitz is a district of the community Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia . Less than 100 people live in the village. There are also the Rödelwitz brass band musicians and the Hexentaler.

geography

Rödelwitz is located in the northern part of the municipality between Zeutsch and Großkochberg . It is located on the slope of the Kirchberg and in the Hexengrund valley. In the immediate vicinity there is a small reservoir, the Engerda dam .

history

The first documentary mention of Rödelwitz took place on February 16, 1084.

A rampart above the Schauenforst Castle has an area of 40 m × 35 m. Fragments found indicate a high to late medieval use. The fortification probably also had a security function for the Hohe Straße passing by and could have been an outdoor facility of the Schauenforst Castle.

The place belonged to Sachsen-Meiningen as an exclave from 1826 to 1920 .

From July 1, 1950 to November 30, 1990 Rödelwitz belonged to the Dorndorf municipality and on December 31, 1990 had 88 inhabitants on an area of 437 hectares.

From 1991 to 2002 the place belonged to the administrative community Uhlstädt . When this was dissolved on July 1, 2002, Rödelwitz formed the new municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel with ten other municipalities.

Culture and sights

The ruins of the Schauenforst castle , in the middle of the forest, with an 18 m high tower and a hut are well worth seeing .

The Schauforstfest takes place every year in July. The tower can be climbed and offers a wonderful view of the surrounding villages.

In the vicinity of the Schauenforst there is the Hohe Straße, an old trade route that leads from Neckeroda via the Spaal (a small collection of stone crosses where a forest service for the surrounding communities takes place every year at Whitsun) to Orlamünde . West of the town directly on the road is the “Fliegergrab”, the memorial to a German fighter pilot who was shot down in an air battle on November 21, 1944.
