Spaal is a desert near the Schmieden part of the municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

location

Coming from Schmieden from the Hexengrund via Schmiedener Berg and Hohe Straße , you can reach the Spaal desert near Reinstädter Grund and Wittersroda . Stone crosses from an old court in front of the village point the way. The settlement was the highest in this area at the end of the 19th century.

history

The Spaal used to be a village that was first mentioned in a document in 1381. It was a round village, say the tracks. From 1492 it was already desolate. From 1725, the village served as Vorwerk and sheep . In 1810 the sons of Holleben were owners. 1910 the village was deserted, most of the houses abandoned and much of the corridor reforested.

The then following owner Henckel von Donnersmarck , based in nearby Kuhfraß , was expropriated in 1945 . Today, the name Spaal includes a larger forest area that is looked after by the Bad Berka Forestry Office . In Spaal at that time there was accommodation for forest workers and drying soil for forest seeds in the Spaalhaus. The Spaal was once a destination.

The former farm building of the Vorwerk and the space around the house was used as a children's holiday camp in the GDR .
