Hermine Cziglér von Vecse-Cappilleri (born January 13, 1840 in Pest ; † July 25, 1905 in Vienna ), née Cziglér von Ény-Vecse, was a German-speaking poet , writer and journalist .

life and work

Hermine Cziglér comes from an old noble Catholic family in Hungary . At the age of eight, she moved with her parents to Vienna , where she experienced the revolution of 1848 and in particular the Hungarian aspirations for independence , and incorporated them into later works. Accompanied by her mother, she began her studies in Pest and continued it in Vienna. Cziglér showed special skills in painting and music. As a young adult, she suffered from a serious illness for several years. During this time she developed an interest in poetry. At the age of 18, her first collection of poems was published under the title “Youth Dreams”. In the following time she experienced further strokes of fate: the mother became blind, the family's financial situation declined and the father became mentally ill. Cziglér continued to devote himself to poetry and in 1863 published "Poesiegestalten", a book of forms of poetry that quickly gave her a name, prompted her to become a member of various learned societies and brought her into contact with the most important luminaries in literature and art. Soon afterwards she shifted her literary work to the field of journalism and wrote for various papers. In 1864 she founded the literary-encyclopaedic weekly “Fata Morgana”, for which she received an annual subsidy from the Austrian State Ministry. At the time of the political upheaval (1866, Battle of Königgrätz ) it was suddenly withheld and the publication was temporarily suspended, but the paper appeared again in the autumn of 1868 under the editorship of the poet. In 1869 she married the Austrian writer Wilhelm Cappilleri.
