Etzelbach is a district of the municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

The village of Etzelbach is 7 km north of Rudolstadt in the Saale valley . Neighboring towns are Kirchhasel to the west, Weißen and Uhlstädt to the east, Kolkwitz and Weißbach to the south . The district of Etzelbach is in the southeast Thuringian red sandstone-shell limestone plate. The valley is bordered by the Saale-Orlaplatte to the southeast and by the Saale-Ilmplatte to the northwest. The Saale valley next to the riverbed of the Saale and Lache is interrupted by the dam on the railway line from Jena to Rudolstadt and the federal highway 88 from Jena to Rudolstadt . The summer mountains are sloping to the southeast like terraces and very sloping. The slopes to the right of the Saale belong to the geological formation of red sandstone . Shell limestone is deposited on the slopes and on the mountains to the left of the Saale . In the Saale valley we find alluvial soils of alluvial origin. Because of the different surface design, the groundwater level fluctuates very strongly and moves to locations remote from the groundwater. The traffic conditions are favorable, but are heavily burdened by the amount of traffic.

history

Etzelbach was first mentioned on February 13, 1140.

Etzelbach is still an agricultural place. After the fall of the Wall, farmers found new ways to cultivate their land. The former manor building became a home for invalids in 1900. A convalescent home for women and girls was built on the Eichberg. After reunification, a new residential area was built to the northwest of the village.
