Location of Kolkwitz in Thuringia

Kolkwitz is a district of the municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

The Kolkwitz district is located 185 m above sea level on the right of the Saale, east of Catharinau and opposite Etzelbach and Kirchhasel on the left of the river. The Schadebach flows into the Saale near Kolkwitz from the mountains to the south of the " Kulm " . The village can be reached via county road 121 . The soils on the Saale are of alluvial origin. On the slopes and on the mountains there is red sandstone covered with shell limestone . The woods adjoining the district to the south invite you to relax and go hiking.

Village church

history

The village, inhabited in 2013 with 185 inhabitants, was first mentioned in a document in 1074. The place has two fortified settlement centers from the Middle Ages. The village church Kolkwitz in the village is in the east and the Edelhof in the west. After 1990 a country hotel was housed in the Edelhof.

economy

Many residents of the place work in the cities in the area such as Jena, Saalfeld or Rudolstadt. Historically, Kolkwitz has been shaped by agriculture. However, their importance has decreased significantly in the last few decades, so that today only one full-time farmer is active. In Kolkwitz there is a hotel as the largest employer.
