Dorndorf village church (Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel)
|
Dorndorf is a district of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .
history
The place is mentioned as Dorendorf in 1083 in the deed of donation from Archbishop Siegfried of Mainz .
There are three variants for the origin of the village name
- a settlement that points to a man named Dor ,
- the thorny blackberry bushes that grow around the village, or
- based on the Germanic god Thor .
Dorndorf was an official village, also a wine-growing village, the place had a large wine press , which gave the local church half of the yield. Vineyards were found here in the 15th and 16th centuries in the following fields: Teufelsberg, Fuchsberg, Angerhügel, Weidenberg, Baumgarten, Hain, an der Obermühle, Flederwisch, Borntal, Hundsrück and Maidental. A place seal has been known since 1674. It shows a church in several versions, next to it a flower with three blossoms. The seal used today, which has been in use since 1949, shows a stylized bridge.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Rödelwitz was incorporated. On December 1, 1990, Rödelwitz was hived off to become an independent municipality.
From 1991 to 2002 the place belonged to the administrative community Uhlstädt . When this was dissolved on July 1, 2002, Dorndorf formed the new municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel with ten other municipalities.
Attractions
Historical monuments in the village are:
- the stone arch bridge over the Wiedbach (or Wiedabach)
- the Romanesque village church with its hipped roof
- the upper mill, in which a functioning Pelton turbine was installed
- the village mill, which is in need of renovation
Events
- The former owner of the village mill, Heinrich Gläser, founded the Rose Festival in 1889, which was based on the Rose Festival from Lichstedt near Rudolstadt . This tradition was discontinued in the late 1950s. In 2008 another rose festival was celebrated. This should now be repeated every two years.
- Maypole setting on April 30th.
- Rose Festival around July 12th (only every two years)
- Autumn festival on October 2nd
- Fair on the first weekend in November.
Others
The author Marthe Renate Fischer used for her books "Die aus dem Drachenhaus" and "Das Patenkind" traditions from local history, for example details about the Rose Festival.
