Dorndorf village church (Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel)
The Evangelical Lutheran Church Dorndorf is the village church of the Dorndorf district of the Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel community in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .
history
The church was built as a Romanesque church in the 12th century. A patronage is not known. Its masonry consisted of rectangular ashlar stones, the arched portal was redesigned to the now bricked-up ogival entrance. Nothing is known about the rebuilding of the portal in the late 15th century.
Today the church has a mighty structure with a high hipped roof , roof turret and lantern . Since 1864 there has been an extension in front of the west wall with a main portal and staircase to the galleries . The other extension is the sanctuary behind the sacristy .
In 1644 the roof turret fell down in a storm. In the course of the reconstruction, the church was doubled in size.
The two rectangular windows on the south side and the small one on the north wall were added between 1646 (confirmed by an inscription on the weather vane ) and 1701.
It is questionable whether the church once ended with an apse in the east. The connections between the nave and the altar house are inconsistent and indicate changes in the past. The masonry must have been broken off from above in order to insert the still existing nave windows. The roof turret may have damaged the top of the wall when it fell.
The church has existed in its current form since 1646. The galleries built in 1688 resemble those of the church in the neighboring town of Engerda .
The old chairs have been removed. The color scheme in the church is still oak .
The baptism and pulpit were installed in 1825. The figure of Katharina, which stood in the church until 1888, no longer exists.
