Extreme obstacle course

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As extreme obstacle course (or Obstacle Course Racing , OCR or Survival Running ) runs are designated where individual participants or teams various obstacles have to be overcome. It has its origins in military training with obstacle courses . OCR demands stamina, strength, agility, speed, dexterity, balance and coordination. In contrast to the classic obstacle course in athletics, the running rhythm is interrupted and the obstacles that are built up differ considerably in terms of requirements. The profiles of the routes and the obstacles are not designed uniformly in the extreme obstacle course. Like cross or trail running, it is run on a natural route. The Tough Guy Race in 1987 is considered the first civilian run .

Typical obstacle elements

A distinction is made between mandatory obstacles (failure to overcome them leads to disqualification) and optional obstacles, which must be compensated for with a penalty (e.g. 30 burpees each ) if they are not overcome. The correct execution is monitored by so-called course marshals.
