Tough Guy Race

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tough Guy Race (English for "tough guy race") is an annual obstacle race in Perton , near the city of Wolverhampton near Birmingham . It was developed by Billy Wilson, who previously designed training camps for elite troops at the Royal Grenadier Guards . The deadline was the last Sunday in January every year. The run is considered the first civilian obstacle course. It did not take place in 2018.

description

The race runs over a distance of 15 km on 150 hectares of land. The so-called “killing fields” formed the centerpiece. There are 21 difficult obstacles to overcome here. Participants have to crawl through mud under 50 cm high barbed wire, crawl through tunnels one meter in diameter, dive under a wooden bridge in ice-cold pools, climb ten meters, abseil from three meters and crawl under an electric fence. Eventually, participants have to walk through burning bales of hay. In 2004 only 2,895 of the 6,000 participants crossed the finish line.

In 2009 the course was extended by 3 km.

The participation fees (depending on the time of registration from approx. 80 €) went to various charitable associations (Mouse Farm - animal welfare organization in Wolverhampton , British Cancer Aid, etc.).
