Spartan Race
The Spartan Race is an extreme obstacle course . It was founded in 2007 as the successor to the 24-hour "Death Race", which was first held in 2004. With 170 races annually in 25 countries on all six continents and over 1 million starters, it is the world's largest obstacle race series.
Racing format
The Spartan Race demands the following disciplines: endurance , strength , flexibility , speed , cognition , dexterity , balance and coordination. The run traditionally starts with: AROO! AROO! AROO! , supposedly the battle cry of the ancient Spartan warriors. In addition to a running distance, up to 60 obstacles have to be overcome, depending on the distance . Obstacles are, for example: overcoming a nine- foot (approx. 2.74 meter ) high escalating wall , jumping over a fire, climbing up on ropes to ring a bell at the top, throwing a javelin , crawling under barbed wire, memorizing a combination of numbers or sandbags (Men 40 lbs (~ 20 kg) and women 20 lbs (~ 10 kg)) up a mountain. If you don't manage the obstacle, you have to complete up to 30 penalty burpees instead in a specially designed zone . Mountain running elements (approx. 1500-2500 meters above sea level ) often come into play in the beast distances .
The running series is aimed at both ambitious amateur athletes and professionals. There are the following distances:

As with many other series, fairness and teamwork have high priority in the Spartan Races. If someone (outside the elite or aged heat classification) needs help overcoming an obstacle, he can rely on support from other participants.
The elite wave (top 10 placement) qualifies for the OCR European Championships or the OCR World Championships . The Spartan Race World Championship takes place in Lake Tahoe , USA . In the world championships, the winners receive prize money totaling $ 500,000.
For young athletes between the ages of 4 and 15 there is a race format: Spartan Juniors Race .

history
Spartan Race was founded in 2009 by Joe De Sena . The first run took place in 2010 in Williston , Vermont with 500 participants. The Spartan Race now takes place in 20 countries, including Canada, many European countries, South Korea and Australia. In Germany, the Spartan Race took place for the first time in the Munich Olympic Park . Reebok has been the main sponsor since 2013 . In 2012 the Spartan Race was voted “Best Obstacle Race” by Outside Magazine. For 2016 NBC would like to make a documentary about the Spartan Race.
